Tim Gabbett, PhD - January 2019
Dr. Tim Gabbett came all the way from Australia and visited with us for a two-day workshop of load monitoring and athlete management. It was a really great weekend and we learned tons.
We learned to develop practical tools to enable more effective and quantifiable load monitoring of athletes. We spent time learning about the protective effects of high chronic loads and learned to write out own programs to monitor load in athletes while staging training effectively. We developed worst-case-scenario training protocols and had many multidisciplinary discussion. It was a really fun weekend. If you’re curious about what our schedule looked like click here. We’re hoping to have him back in 2020 so stay tuned.
Nicole Surdyka, PT, DPT, CSCS - January 2019
Dr. Surdyka was nice enough to lead a 2-hour ethics course on return to play decision making.
We learned to identify the main roles of the healthcare professional in return to sport decision making, identify key stakeholders in that process and to apply the APTA and NATA codes of ethics. We also learned about the Strategic Assessment of Risk and Risk Tolerance (StARRT) framework and how to best apply it for most ethical RTS decision making. Nicole proved that fulfilling your 2-hour ethics requirement for maintaining your license doesn’t have to be a complete bore.
